New to worshipping Inanna, or feel like you don’t know where to begin? Here are 8 easy ways that you can honour Inanna- no altar, candles, or crystals needed!

1. Ponder
   By far the easiest method yet- just thinking about Inanna can be an act of worship. Whether you think of Her name, art about Her, or Her role on your life, all thoughts are valid. This is especially useful if you are new to Her worship and are still familiarising yourself with Her.
   
2. Learn
   Learn more about Sumer, Akkad, Babylon, Assyria, and the wider Mesopotamia region and the context in which Inanna was first worshipped. What was Her role? How was She venerated? How can you apply traditional concepts in your own practice? How do the descendants of these civilisations honour Her today?
   It’s especially important to remember that while a majority no longer believe in the old Gods, there are still descendants of Inanna’s original worshippers who recognise and honour Her. She is a part of a people who are living, breathing, and enduring to this day. Be respectful.
   
3. Read
   Read myths and hymns that centre around Inanna. What do they tell us? What insights do they offer into Her character? What is written in between the lines? Some good myths to start with are Inanna’s Descent, The Courtship of Inanna & Dumuzid, and Inanna and Enki. Enheduanna’s “Exaltation of Inanna” is also good to read and recite if you aren’t quite ready for independent prayer yet.
   
4. Beautify
   As the Goddess of Love and Sex, beauty is another realm of Inanna’s. Beautify yourself or your surroundings with the Goddess in mind- wear a nice outfit, get your hair done, or even clean your home!
   
5. Offer
   No altar, no problem! Pouring out water, wine, or beer (whatever you have handy) as a libation to Inanna works fine. It is best to pour the offering directly onto the Earth, but down a clean drain is also acceptable. Work with what you have!
   
6. Create
   Paint, draw, write, compose! From visual art, to poems, to online posts about Her, anything you create in Her likeness or for Her praise is pleasing!
   
7. Vocalise
   Not necessarily singing (but you totally can if you want to), but using your voice to communicate with Inanna is key if you want to deepen your relationship with Her. Praying aloud, singing, or even reading out Her hymns- the sky is the limit!
   
8. Meditate
   Pondering, but deeper. Reflect on your relationship with Inanna. What can you learn from Her? How can you improve your relationship with Her? Inner work—such as addressing parts of yourself that make you uncomfortable, or working towards healing your fears or traumas—can also be a way to honour Her, but only if you are ready to undertake the labour and in a sound state of mind. This way, you mimic Her; by going on your very own Descent journey.
